Portraits in the Prophets
Among the works that make up Sargent’s Triumph of Religion at the Library, the Frieze of Prophets—a procession of sixteen life-sized figures—most clearly reveals his achievement as a portraitist. Sargent created highly individualized, vital human figures that contrast sharply with the stylized figures in the lunette and vault above them.
