Pagan Gods, head of Astarte, and Kore 674 Inspired by an ancient Greek kore statue he had seen in Athens in 1891, Sargent gave his Astarte an Eastern appearance. As he designed her face, he referred back to the several sketches he had made of the recently excavated Greek statue.
