In 1894, Sargent rented a large studio near the Fulham Road, London, where he would complete the murals on individual canvases. He first painted versions of them at one-third scale, to place in a model he had had built. These smaller panels closely resemble the final paintings, except for the difference in size and degree of finish. Dogma of the Redemption, model 1895–1903.
