Frieze of Prophets, detail of Amos, and Sketch of an Arab Sargent’s Frieze of Prophets also shows how he drew inspiration from people he saw in passing during his travels. His splendid sketch of a proud Bedouin Arab, for example, done on one of his trips to North Africa, strongly influenced the character and tone of his Amos, a country man who lived in the 8th century b.c.e.
