Judgment

Judgment

In the middle lunette on the west wall, the Archangel Michael occupies the central space artists often assigned to Christ in Last Judgment scenes. While Michael weighs souls, below him another soul resumes bodily form at the sound of the heavenly trumpets, and is hoisted up by a demon. Another demon drags the body of a condemned man out of the scales to be consigned to the flames of hell. At left, two angels receive the embodied soul of a nude youth. One angel holds the halo that will soon be the youth’s.
