Condition of the murals

The 2003 conservation team found the Triumph of Religion murals to be in good structural condition, with the exception of a few minor areas of flaking paint. The canvases were stable and attached securely to the plaster walls. The primary challenge the conservators faced was removing the heavy layer of dust and grime that obscured the mural surfaces. A wax layer applied by previous conservators held tenaciously to surface dirt, complicating the cleaning process.
