Documentation

Documentation of examination findings and treatment procedures comprises a significant portion of a treatment. In the past, treatments were often poorly documented. For example, few records exist from the 1953 restoration. As a result, our present understanding of the murals’ condition problems is limited to examination and analysis. Current conservation practices oblige conservators to record accurately their activities in permanent written and photographic form. Future conservators may reference these records for condition assessments and treatment decisions.
