High-relief sculptural elements
The two most impressive plaster reliefs in Sargent Hall are the figure Moses from Frieze of Prophets on the north wall and Crucifix on the opposing wall. These high-relief elements project up to twelve inches from the mural surfaces. Like the low-relief plaster elements, they were cast from clay models, gilded, and toned with paint. Sargent’s modeling of the figures in Crucifix approaches sculpture in-the-round.
